Wellington Phoenix were held at home to a 1-1 draw by a Wanderers side which ended the contest with 10-men.

The hosts were pushed back deep from the outset, and Western Sydney’s pressure paid off just before the half-hour when Brendon Santalab found the net on the end of a corner.

Josep Gombau’s side would ride this advantage until the 78th minute, but a bullet strike from substitute Matija Ljujic equalised for Wellington in spectacular fashion.

A red card shown to Brendan Hamill gave the Phoenix some hope of taking all three points, however, Matthew Ridenton fumbled their best chance to snatch victory in the late stages.
