Mat Ryan will be eager to confine a poor moment against Atletico Madrid in the preseason to history before the Seagulls face Manchester City in their Premier League opener next week.

Ryan enjoyed an impressive opening in Brighton’s friendly with Spanish giants Atletico, but he was beaten by a tame-looking effort struck by midfielder Nico Gaitan.

That proved the first of three Atleti goals, who won the game 3-2. Ryan played the full 90 minutes.

Tomi Juric was handed a straight red card in the 91st minute of FC Luzern’s 2-2 draw against Grasshopper. Juric’s dismissal was one of three send-offs, the second in the same instance.

Andy Rose started for new club Motherwell and was replaced in the 79th minute of their 2-1 defeat against Rangers.

Jimmy Jeggo saw only a handful of minutes for Sturm Graz in their 3-2 win over Mattersburg, introduced as an 89th-minute substitute.

Brad Smith and Adam Federici were not involved for AFC Bournemouth in their friendly draw with Napoli. However, Jordan Holmes sat on the bench in the 2-2 stalemate.

In Germany, Mitch Langerak started on the bench for Stuttgart in their 2-1 defeat by Real Betis, but was introduced at the half time break.

Mathew Leckie was not involved for Hertha Berlin against Galatasaray.
