Newcastle Jets did enough to secure a 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar at home on Friday night.
Glen Moss – 7: Stopped a headed chance from Ivan Franjic which would have been a certain goal and was vital to Newcastle keeping their lead as Brisbane gained control.
Daniel Georgievski – 6: Not afraid to venture forward and try his luck from distance, but lost defensive legs in the second half.
Nigel Boogaard – 6.5: Held a strong line which shutdown Massimo Maccarone and kept Brisbane to long range chances.
Nikolai Topor-Stanley – 6: Should have doubled Newcastle’s lead with a close range header, but displayed his usual command of the back four.
Ivan Vujica – 6.5: Had a rather comfortable outing against Daniel Leck out wide.
Wayne Brown – 6: Was better in the first half, but added a valuable presence inside the box when Newcastle were defending.
Steven Ugarkovic – 6: Had to perform physically in the midfield, yet his influence faded late on.
Jason Hoffman – 8: Calmly slotted home Newcastle’s opener in the 11th minute and arguably could have had another from close range soon after the hour. Substituted late.
Dimitri Petratos – 7.5: Threatened the Roar from set pieces, and fed the ball to his fellow attackers with pinpoint passes.
Devante Clut – 6: Efficient in his return to Newcastle’s attack without stealing the show. Replaced soon after the break.
Andrew Nabbout – 8.5: Provided the assist for Hoffman’s opener and always looked dangerous when the ball was at his feet. Distribution and set pieces were on point.
Pato Rodríguez – 5: Newcastle had lost most of their attacking momentum during his time on the pitch, but he provided some necessary fresh legs.
John Koutroumbis – N/A: Saw out the final minutes.
Angus Thurgate – 5.5: Displayed some promising passing and just went wide with a late strike.
Jamie Young – 8: Made two desperation saves in the first half and denied a long range shot from Georgievski, but could do little when one on one with Hoffman.
Connor O’Toole – 5.5: AnMade an important early interception at the back post, but should have headed home an equaliser for the Roar in the second half.
Avraam Papadopoulos – 6: Approached the contest with reckless physical abandon and largely shutdown the opposition attack in the second half.
Jacob Pepper – 5: Was caught out at a crucial moment and constantly tested by Nabbout.
Jack Hingert – 5: Had a tough time up against Petratos.
Matt McKay – 5.5: Had a shot that seemed destined for the net blocked by numerous Jets defenders.
Thomas Kristensen – 5: Was not imposing enough from the screening role.
Eric Bautheac – 6.5: Booked for a strong challenge on Georgievski, but was an immense force in the midfield and sent in numerous dangerous deliveries before his second half substitution.
Fahid Khalfallah – 5: Looked a step too slow against the Newcastle defence to create any serious chances, despite having a lot of the ball in midfield.
Daniel Leck – 5: The youngster was well marshalled on the wing and made way for Ivan Franjic soon after the break.
Massimo Maccarone – 5: Had a great chance in the first half, but when as the Roar pressured in the second half the Italian grew somewhat anonymous.
Ivan Franjic – 6: Forced a great save from Moss with a header in the latter stages and sent an dangerous ball into the box.
Shannon Brady – 5: Did not have the necessary experience to make an impact on the scoreline for Aloisi.
