Major League Soccer (MLS) club Vancouver Whitecaps have confirmed they have struck a deal with Sydney FC loanee Bernie Ibini.
The attacker was on-loan with the double winning Sky Blues from Club Brugge and will make the move to Canada.
Ibini’s deal with Vancouver will run through 2018, with an option to extend into 2019. He will join the club pending a medical and the approval of a Canadian work permit.
The 24-year-old will however take that medical with an injured hamstring, which he picked up in the Sky Blues’ comfortable 3-0 semi-final win over Perth Glory.
“Bernie is an exciting young player with great upside,” Vancouver coach Carl Robinson said.
“He’s big, powerful, and can play as a wide player or as a centre forward. And just as importantly, he’s someone who is hungry and keen to prove himself in Major League Soccer.
“We look forward to working with Bernie to help him reach his potential.”
Ibini missed Sydney’s grand final success against Melbourne Victory on Sunday with his hamstring injury.
Though Ibini was only on loan, his move is the third bout of personnel news already following Sydney’s success.
Milos Ninkovic re-signed with the club on a marquee deal on Tuesday, while on Wednesday morning, CEO Tony Pignata was announced to be stepping down on 2 June.
