EuROOvision: Vukovic’s Genk firm for Europa League progression, Celtic in with a chance

Danny Vukovic and Tom Rogic are well and truly in the mix for progression to the Europa League Round of 32 with their respective sides.

Vukovic’s Racing Genk fell behind against Turkish giants Besiktas after 16 minutes but rallied to equalise late in the piece, earning a 1-1 draw.

The point leaves Genk at the top of Group I after four matches, leading all comers with seven points.

Sarpsborg and Malmo are close behind on five each, while Besiktas are bottom – but still alive – on four.

At Celtic Park, Rogic’s Hoops downed RB Leipzig 2-1 to keep their hopes of progression alive.

Celtic lead until the 78th minute, when Leipzig equalised, but the Glasgow giants hit back almost immediately to secure an important win.

They are now level with Leipzig on six points, leaving the two teams to fight it out on the final two matchdays for second place.

Red Bull Salzburg are the clear group leaders, unbeaten at the top of Group B with 12 points.

Rogic played out the full game in midfield.

Elsewhere in the group, Alex Gersbach‘s Rosenborg were left at the foot of the table, hammered 5-2 at home by Salzburg.

The left-back was an unused substitute.

In Cyprus, Apostolos Giannou completed 90 minutes for AEK Larnaca, whose own chances of progression were snuffed out by Ludogorets.

AEK drew 0-0 with the Bulgarians, leaving the pair equal bottom of Group A on two points.
