League Two minnows Newport County are set to face off against Manchester City after overcoming Championship side Middlesbrough in a fourth round replay.
Robbie Willmott and Padraig Armond’s goals gave the Welsh outfit the chance to take on a City side who remain in the hunt for four trophies this season.
The pair both turned provider for one another during the second half as Tony Pulis’ Boro outfit crashed out of the competition.
It was better news for fellow Championship side Brentford after they overcame a plucky Barnet, the only non-league side who remained in the competition.
Sergi Canos opened the scoring for the home side after just seven minutes before Julian Jeanvier made it two just after the half hour mark.
The dynamic Neal Maupay ensured Brentford’s position in the next round after he scored in the 71st minute before David Tutonda scored a consolation for the visitors.
Massimo Luongo’s Queens Park Rangers also progressed with a 2-0 victory over League One outfit Portsmouth.
Nakhi Wells and Matt Smith were on the scoresheet for the home side.
While, Premier League side Wolverhampton were again involved in an entertaining clash with third tier Shrewsbury Town.
Despite grabbing an early lead, through Matt Doherty the home side found themselves behind after goals from James Bolton and Josh Laurent had the underdogs on track for an unlikely result.
Matt Doherty scored again on the edge of half-time before Ivan Cavaleiro scored the match winner in the 62nd minute.
West Brom and Derby County will fight to earn the final place in the next round when they meet on Wednesday morning AEDT.
