Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC’s respective Asian Champions League campaigns came to a close on matchday six.
In need of a win, but without control of their own destiny regardless, Sydney were not able to break down a determined Shanghai Shenhua side at Allianz Stadium.
The heavily rotated Shenhua held out for a goalless draw in what was, for them, a dead rubber, though regardless of the result, Sydney were eliminated in any case as Suwon Bluewings defeated Kashima Antlers.
Meanwhile, Melbourne Victory ended their continental on a foray, fielding the kids in a 2-1 win in their dead rubber against Shanghai SIPG.
Pierce Waring and Jai Ingham both found the net as Victory gained some momentum heading into their A-League elimination final against Adelaide United on Sunday.
