Player Ratings: Western Sydney Wanderers 2 Newcastle Jets 2 – A breathless affair


Western Sydney Wanderers and Newcastle Jets have played out a 2-2 draw in a drama-packed thriller at Spotless Stadium on Friday night.

Western Sydney Wanderers

Vedran Janjetovic – 6.5: Made five saves in a solid goalkeeping display, despite conceding two goals, one of which was an absolute cracker. Perhaps lucky to have avoided embarrassment via VAR with a third.

Joshua Risdon – 6.5: Was good from a defensive perspective with five interceptions, four clearances and a few tackles. He was also good offensively with four key passes but butchered a number of promising positions.

Brendan Hamill – 6: Won most of his duels and was strong for the most part.

Michael Thwaite – 7: Racked up over half a dozen clearances and won just over 50 percent of his challenges.

Raul Llorente – 6: Made a few successful tackles, was not as effective going forward as he has been in past matches.

Roly Bonevacia – 7: Heavily involved, his passing on all levels was solid. Won most of his duels and produced a key pass.

Steven Lustica – 6: Did not have a big impact on proceedings but it was not a terrible display by any means.

Marcelo Carrusca – 7: Created a couple of chances and made a few successful tackles.

Christopher Ikonomidis – 8: He found the back of the net in the fourth minute with a composed bottom corner finish but it was ruled offside, many argued it was harsh. A great display otherwise.

Oriol Riera – 8.5: Made no mistake from the penalty spot on two occasions to give the Wanderers a lead twice. Created two big chances and also could have had a hat-trick.

Mark Bridge – 6: Created a couple of chances and passed well, also won a few challenges.


Alvaro Cejudo – 5.5: Played roughly 20 minutes and did not change the match in his stint.

Keanu Baccus – 5.5: Came on with less than 20 minutes remaining, did not have an impact.

Jashua Sotirio – N/A: Entered play in late stages.


Newcastle Jets

Jack Duncan – 7.5: Made three saves, including one which came in the dying stages, it proved vital to earn a point for his side. Only conceded from the spot and was the better of the two goalkeepers.

Daniel Georgievski – 7: Racked up a few clearances and a couple of tackles, won most of his challenges.

Nigel Boogaard – 6: Produced a few clearances, his long passing was great at times to help set up attacks.

Nikolai Topor-Stanley – 5: Conceded two penalties, arguably harsh calls but nonetheless it was not his night.

Jason Hoffman – 6: Racked up a few interceptions and clearances. Was beaten easily on a few occasions but it was not a bad performance.

Wayne Brown – 6: Did not have a big impact on the match, he won a few tackles and passed well at times.

Steven Ugarkovic – 7: His passing was consistent and he was strong in a holding midfield role.

Dimi Petratos – 8: His stunning strike in the 48th minute levelled the scores. He also produced an assist and a few key passes.

Andrew Nabbout – 8: Got the Jets back on level terms seconds after the Wanderers retook the lead with a fantastic display of skill and outside of the boot finish.

Roy O’Donovan – 6: Was not his best performance but held up the play a couple of times.

Pato Rodriguez – 6.5: Distribution was good, produced a few key passes including an assist and was a menace to opposition defenders. Was guilty of overplaying at times, however.


Riley McGree – 5.5: Completed 12 passes at 100% accuracy.

Joseph Champness – N/A: Entered play late in proceedings.

Nick Cowburn – N/A: Came on in the dying stages.
