A solitary goal from Jason Hoffman was enough for Newcastle to beat Brisbane 1-0 on Friday night.
The decisive moment came early in the match, when Andrew Nabbout’s expertly-threaded pass ended with Hoffman calmly finishing past Jamie Young.
John Aloisi’s side would largely control the possession and attacking momentum in the second half, but a lack of fuel in the final third and some last ditch defending from the hosts frustratingly kept Brisbane scoreless.
Here are some of the best reactions to come from Twitter after the result:
A win for football that, one team looking to play, the other, a bunch of over the hill butchers from Brisbane #NEWvBRI

At some point, Aloisi should walk.
Who cares about a 20 minute stint? That team isn’t good enough, they’re poorly drilled, they have no attack and their defense is woeful.
I don’t even support them and I’m offended #newvbri

Roar showed minimal enthusiasm to try and get an equalizer, Aloisi must be under as much pressure as Edwards surely….. no direction or leadership shown….#NEWvBRI

At what point is the pressure really turned up in Aloisi and co? Brisbane been poor and getting worse for some time. Attack is horrible with low percentage cross after low percentage cross. No creativity in the centre of the park at all, something has to give. #NEWvBRI #ALeague

I’ve witnessed the Jets and their supporters go through some horrid times over the years but to see them pick up another 3 points and the crowd figures increasing is such a joy. Well done to Ernie and the playing group. #NEWvBRI
