PSV Eindhoven manager Mark van Bommel says Trent Sainsbury can pursue a move away from the Eredivisie giants.
Socceroo Sainsbury did not play in PSV’s 3-1 win over Den Haag, despite playing a full 90 minutes in their opening match of the season.
In an interview with FOX Sports Netherlands, van Bommel said Sainsbury had been deemed surplus to requirements.
A report from RTL Nieuws, translated, reads: “Derrick Luckassen and Trent Sainsbury can leave PSV. Trainer Mark van Bommel has made it clear to the two central-defenders that they no longer need them.”
Sainsbury moved to PSV before the start of the 2018-19 season but has since struggled to establish himself in Eindhoven.
He only made nine appearances all up that season: five in the Eredivisie, two in the cup and two in the Champions League.
Fellow Socceroo Aziz Behich joined Sainsbury at PSV but did not last as long. He has since signed for Istanbul Basaksahir.
He still has two years remaining on his PSV contract.
