After winning over Cambodia in the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, close outside the Cambodian city, the Olyroos started their campaign for admission to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in convincing form.
Australia was frequently forced to rely on set-pieces and balls from the sideline early on stage because of the forward movement of the wingers Ivan Vujka and Nathaniel Atkinson, as well as Ryan Grant, Aziz Behic, and wingers Rene Piscopo, and the forward movement of the wingers Champness, and they did in the Asia Cup.
Olyroos had good control from the beginning of the game when his best early chances came almost exclusively from set-pieces, but he did little to allay those worries early on.
Dramatic break started
In fact, Australia’s opening football goal was scored in the 21st minute, which is a good indication of their early prospects.
When the Australians scored their second goal in the 29th minute after breaking through midfield, things quickly turned around. Piscopo then hit the game-winning shot to get Mushroom behind the defense and set him up for his second goal of the match.
The Cambodians already appeared to be having trouble defeating them because the hosts didn’t score until the 45th minute, when Khien Menghour a striker, headed wide with a powerful attempt that Jordan Holmes confidently stopped. A few minutes before the half-hour mark, the agony increased.
Brandon Wilson of Perth Glory was ready and eager to pick up the ball and return it into danger after McGree took a corner from the right, and he did so.
In the 68th minute, Waring, who had been substituted in the second half, shot deeply into the side netting after McGree’s move eventually allowed him to deliver a perfectly weighted ball into his path.
After losing their first football game 8-0, the Olyroos will, unfortunately, have to wait until game three to play a struggling Taiwan team.
